A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system teacher was sentenced to more than ten years in prison yesterday on charges of viewing and possessing child pornography after pleading guilty in February. Benjamin McMiller was arrested in November 2016 after CMPD received an online tip.
According to court records, McMiller was streaming child pornography online. A forensic examination of McMiller's electronic devices revealed that he had 88 pictures and 54 videos of child pornography in his posession. Some of the images and videos depicted minors being sexually abused. McMiller will have to register as a sex offender when released from prison and serve a lifetime of supervised release.
McMillian worked at Oakdale Elementary in west Charlotte from August 2015 until his arrest. WSOC-TV reports police did not have the information at the time of his arrest to determine if McMiller had inappropriate contact with any students at the school.
