Kannapolis Intimidators Ask For Public's Help In Rebranding

Kannapolis Intimidators

The Kannapolis Intimidators are looking for a new name and they want the public to help them.

The team yesterday launched its “Branded New By You” campaign, in which community members can suggest new nicknames for the Class A franchise. The change will include a new logo and mascot and will coincide with the team moving to a new stadium in downtown.

The Kannapolis Sports and Entertainment Venue is scheduled to open in April of 2020 and have a capacity of almost 5,000 for baseball games.

"We are excited to partner with the Kannapolis community in revitalizing the downtown anchored by the new Sports and Entertainment Venue," said new team owner Andy Sandler in a statement. "Giving fans an even better game experience with a new team name, fresh logo and engaging mascot is a very important part of what is ahead for Kannapolis baseball and the city."

The team's current name is a nod to Kannapolis’ most famous native, the late Dale Earnhardt, who bought a share in the team. Before that name was adopted in 2001, they were known as the Phillies and the Boll Weevils.

Opening Day for the team's final season at the Intimidators current stadium is Thursday, April 4th. The public can submit new name suggestions at www.kannapolisballpark.com.
