UNC Charlotte says it may phase out its MBA in Sports Marketing and Management because of budget issues. WFAE's Lisa Miller has more: The Belk College of Business has decided not to take any more students in its graduate sports marketing program until further notice. The college's dean Joe Mazzola says it's an effort to address what could continue to be tough financial time. "As resources became more restricted we had to rethink whether or not the benefit of having such a small, specialized program truly would support the resources allocated to it," says Mazzola. He says the future of the sports marketing program is unclear, but the twenty or so students already enrolled in it will be able to complete their degrees. The decision not to take any more students won't save the college much this year because the program is still operating. But Mazzola says the savings could come down the road if the college decides to scale back the graduate program or eliminate it. The Belk College of Business hasn't suspended or phased out any other programs.
