Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is investigating two deaths classified as homicides in the last 24 hours, police reported Saturday.
In the first case, a 39-year-old woman, Cashona Tate, was discovered in a northwest Charlotte apartment when CMPD responded to a "check the welfare" call Friday at 8:45 p.m. Tate was found inside the apartment in the 300 block of Hoskins Mill Lane, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Also on Friday, at 9:38 p.m., police responded to an attempted suicide call in north Charlotte, in the 8700 block of Viceregal Court. When officers arrived, they found 65-year-old Paul Harris Balshem with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the initial investigation shows that Balshem's death will be investigated as a homicide, not suicide.
