October is only halfway over, but some people in the North Carolina mountains are already seeing snow.
Some of the first flurries of the season fell Tuesday night over Sugar Mountain, N.C.
According to the Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, residents woke up to a blanket of 1.5 inches Wednesday morning, amounting to an "early start to the winter."
The ski resort also said it was collecting essential items for people impacted by Hurricane Helene, including buddy heaters, generators and blankets.
