Police say a 25-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night in southwest Charlotte.
Someone called 911 to report a shooting just before 10:45 p.m. When Charlotte-Mecklenburg police got to the scene in the 9000 block of Nations Ford Road, they found Michael Anthony King shot to death in a parking lot.
Officers didn't release any information about what may have led to the shooting.
King's death is the 22nd homicide reported by CMPD this year and the fifth since Saturday.
On Wednesday morning, 34-year-old Jeremy Whitted was shot to death in south Charlotte while being treated by medics. No other people were hurt in that case.
On Saturday, 19-year-old Antwon Risher was shot to death near South End, and on Monday, 24-year-old Tevonte Epps died after being shot in north Charlotte. Arrests have been made in both Risher's and Epps' slayings.
On Monday, 63-year-old Sylvester Coswell died at a hospital a day after being taken there following what police described as a domestic violence situation in the 6800 block of Delta Lake Drive in northeast Charlotte. Apparently, two family members got into a fight, and Coswell complained of a headache and then became unresponsive.
Coswell's death was ruled a homicide on Tuesday.
Arrests have been made the killings of Epps, Risher and Whitted.
Last year, the police department reported 107 homicides in the city -- the highest count since 1993. Just for context, the overall homicide rate would have been higher back then because Charlotte was about half the population it does today.
