UNC Charlotte dedicated a new memorial on Friday to the students who were killed and injured in a campus shooting in 2019.

In the days after the shooting, students gathered outside the Kennedy building to place flowers and handmade memorials.

Saturday, April 30 marks three years since a gunman opened fire on a UNC Charlotte classroom. The shooting left two students, Riley Howell and Reed Parlier, dead, and four others injured. The university will hold remembrance events on campus throughout Friday.

A memorial quickly began to take shape at Lake Junaluska as word of Riley Howell’s death reached Waynesville in May 2019. A race in his honor will take place this weekend.
