Gaston Co. Residents Protest Closing Of Schools

A group of parents and students gathered in front of Rhyne Elementary School in Gastonia over the weekend to protest the possible closing of that school. The Gaston Gazette has the story here. A report from UNC-Charlotte's Urban Institute has recommended closing Rhyne, along with McAdenville Elementary and York Chester Middle School. The plan calls for transferring students to underpopulated schools. The report says the move could save the county about $25 million over the next five years, WSOC-TV reports.
