Despite Flier, UNC's Top Receiver Gets To Play
UNC's top receiver, Dwight Jones, will get to play in the Independence Bowl after all. The school had declared him ineligible to play in the Dec. 26 game against Missouri because Jones allowed his image to be used in a flier promoting a New Year's Eve birthday party for him at a nightclub in Burlington, NC. That's a NCAA no-no. It prohibits college athletes from "using their name or image to promote an off-campus business or for-profit entity," the News & Observer reports. But the school appealed to the NCAA, and it decided to let Jones play. The flier received a lot of attention thanks to Deadspin.com - and the content of the flier. It's a bit more extravagant than your typical party flier posted on a campus bulletin board, as you can see here. It advertises general admission as $10 ($20 for VIP), unless you're among the first 24 "ladies." Jones will cover for them. It also promises 24 free shots "every hour, on the hour." Again, compliments of Jones. And then there's up to a $500 cash giveaway for some "lucky ladies in the building." If you're interested, dress is sexxxy casual. Check that. The party has been canceled. Sorry.
