Part of West Boulevard near Charlotte Douglas International Airport is closing permanently starting Friday.
The airport is building a new taxiway and other infrastructure to accommodate more flights.
West Boulevard will close between Piney Top Drive and Steele Creek Road as construction crews work to realign the route and reconnect West Boulevard. The project is expected to take about four months, with detours on Arrowood Road, Sandy Porter Road and South Tryon Street.
Starting Jan. 3, #CLTairport will begin a 4-month construction project for the South End Around Taxiway, resulting in a permanent closure and realignment of a portion of West Boulevard (from Piney Top Dr. to Steele Creek Rd.).
