Remembrances are underway across the area on Thursday, the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Every year, the Steven Coakley Foundation places 2,977 American flags at Romare Bearden Park in uptown Charlotte — one for each person who died in the attack. A ceremony also includes bell-ringing.
Annual remembrances were also held in Salisbury, Mooresville and around the region.
