Republican Primaries and the Primary Process The Republican presidential race is well underway with candidates criss-crossing the country, debating each other and serving up talking points. But the candidates aren't the only ones jockeying for position; there is a new kind of war between the states and it's a battle over when states will hold their primaries or caucuses. Several states have wrangled over when to hold these events and the candidates are watching.
