Toll Road and Bypass Projects Charlotte is growing fast. There is no disputing that. What is in dispute is exactly how to deal with that growth and one thorny issue is transportation. State and local officials have proposed two large projects aimed at relieving congestion, The Monroe Bypass and the Garden Parkway in Gaston County, but critics say these projects will make things worse. We'll talk with journalists who have followed the intricate developments of these two highway projects and what we can expect in the near future. The future of two massive road projects is in the fast lane. Guests Adam Bell - Reporter, Charlotte Observer Ken Elkins - Senior Staff Writer, Charlotte Business Journal Michael Barrett - Reporter, Gaston Gazette The Garden Parkway / Gaston East-West Connector is a planned toll road approximately 21.9 miles from I-85 west of Gastonia in Gaston County to I-485 near the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in Mecklenburg County with new crossings over the South Fork and Catawba Rivers.
