The EQUALibrium Awards Gala will honor Charlotte area residents who have made outstanding contributions and impact in advancing issues of race and equity within our community.
The event will highlight the stories and achievements of these remarkable individuals who have devoted themselves to fostering inclusivity, dismantling systemic barriers and promoting equity and equality in our region.
The evening will feature engaging speakers, captivating performances and an awards ceremony that recognizes the honorees.

Scholars and historians will examine historical memories of South Carolina's tri-racial past during the “Just Sharing: Building Community Through Stories of Our Past” panel discussion, featuring:
• “Memorializing and Memory: Slavery, Civil War, Jim Crow,” presented by Dr. Vernon Burton, Clemson University• “The Legacy of Violence in South Carolina,” presented by Dr. Jennifer Gunter, University of South Carolina• “Memories of Indigenous Removal and Dispossession,” presented by Dr. Evan Nooe, USC Lancaster
A reception will follow the discussion, which is free and open to the public.
“Just Sharing” is sponsored by South Carolina Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities’ “United We Stand: Connecting through Culture” initiative, combating hate-based violence through cultural engagement.

Thoughts of a Colored Man features a slice of life in rapidly gentrifying Brooklyn through seven Black men’s remarkable stories. Woven together with spoken word these men share their dreams, struggles, and triumphs in a world that often refuses to listen to them.
Directed by Sidney Horton, and featuring a talented ensemble of Charlotte actors – you won’t want to miss the show critics are calling “the most important play of the 21st century.”
Thoughts of a Colored Man contains strong adult language, adult themes around race, and descriptions and depictions of anti-Black sentiments and violence. Recommend for ages 16+.

The juried show willfeature over 20 skilled local artisans in painting, print making, mixedmedia, pottery, glass, jewelry, book arts, wood, and whimsicalsculptures. The group has successfully produced shows in the Dilwortharea for over 20 years. Win a basket filled with original artwork byparticipating artists in our giveaway benefiting the mission endeavorsof the Avondale Church Youth Group. Take part in an authentic ghost hunt of the building and grounds (weather permitting) using real investigative tools led by members of the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society (CAPS). The Wings for Life World Run is a truly unique and global race for both runners and wheelchair participants. Instead of a finish line, competitors race side by side to keep ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car. Now in its eleventh year, on May 5, 2024 Wings for Life World Run participants in United States can also run together in Charlotte. Meet up with your friends, download the Wings for Life World Run App and join all the other people running until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you of course. The race starts at exactly 7:00:00 AM. The Virtual Catcher Car takes off 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last athletes have been caught. 100% of all donations and the entry fees go directly into spinal cord research projects.

Hey everyone! Can you believe the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is turning 40 on Sunday, May 5th? Let’s celebrate 40 years of agricultural excellence together!
Come on down and enjoy some free strawberry ice cream provided by Riverbend Creamery & Dairy Farm and strawberry cake baked by our various vendors. Don’t forget to bring your favorite strawberry dish and recipe to enter our strawberry recipe contest!
For the adults, we’ll have local breweries, meaderies, distilleries, and wineries on site sampling their drinks and pairing them with different cheeses. And don’t miss the NC seafood display by Lucky Fish and watch NorthBay Oyster Company shuck oysters. Plus, join in on the fish fling!
Kids will have a blast planting seeds to take home and watch grow. And there’s plenty of fun activities for everyone, like listening to presentations on native plants, making pine needle hedgehogs, and taking photos in our photo booth.
