Missa Papae Marcelli and Other Mass Movements Through Time
The Charlotte Chamber Choir presents Missa Papae Marcelli, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s monumental Renaissance masterwork, which legend says saved polyphony for all time, in its entirety.
Accompanying this immortal masterpiece are five select movements of later Masses from the Renaissance to the 20th century, moving in reverse liturgical order - from Agnus Dei to Kyrie - and backward through time. These selections invite listeners to experience the echo of Palestrina’s influence through centuries of great composers and evolving musical languages.
Concerts take place March 14 at Providence United Methodist Church and March 15 at Myers Park Baptist Church, both at 3:30 PM. Tickets are $20, with $5 tickets available for students.
