Police investigate hate crime in Lowell

An interracial couple in Gaston County is the target of a hate crime. The man's home was spray-painted with the message, "We will burn you out." Cyd McDaniel and Allen "Doug" McGee have been dating for a year and a half. She's black and he's white. That never caused a big stir in their community of Lowell until last month. A brick with a hangman's noose was left on McGee's front porch. Cyd McDaniel says there was a note that said her boyfriend's parents wouldn't approve of their relationship. The message warned that something else would happen if they kept dating and yesterday that happened. The side of McGee's house was spray-painted with the message, "We will burn you out." There was also a spray-painted figure of a person being hanged. McDaniel says for now she's worried about how to explain all this to her kids. Lowell police do not have a suspect, but they've classified both incidents as hate crimes.
