Sheriffs Request Prescription Information

Sheriffs in North Carolina want to see your prescription drug records. The North Carolina Sheriff's Association asked lawmakers this week to pass a law that would give them direct access to the state's pharmaceutical database. They want to see who's taking pain-killers like Oxycontin and Methadone. These drugs can be addictive and are often abused and sold on the black market, sometimes with fatal consequences. But privacy advocates are staunchly opposed to giving sheriff's departments the access they've requested. Sheriff Sam Page of Rockingham County is president of the sheriff's association. He spoke with WFAE's Scott Graf about this.
