Police have identified the woman who was shot and killed in east Charlotte late Wednesday night.
CMPD said officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service around 11:20 p.m. at a home off Central Avenue. When police arrived, they found Jessica Dawn Smith, 28, with a gunshot wound. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the homicide and have not released further information at this time.
This is this 45th homicide to occur in Charlotte in 2018.
