Jodie Valade is a Digital News and Engagement Editor for WFAE. Since moving to Charlotte in 2015, she has worked as a digital content producer for and a freelance writer for publications ranging from Charlotte magazine to The Washington Post and New York Times. Before that, Jodie was an award-winning sports features and enterprise reporter at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio. She also worked at The Dallas Morning News covering the Dallas Mavericks -- where she became Mark Cuban's lifelong email pen pal -- and at The Kansas City Star.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Master of Education from John Carroll University. She is originally from Rochester Hills, Michigan.

They started showing up at 6 a.m., four hours away from when the door would open, and even longer away from when anyone would be eating lunch. Antonio Diaz was so insistent on being one of the first in line at Brooks Sandwich House that he even beat the employees there Saturday.

“They clapped when they saw the early birds,” Diaz said. “They started clapping for us. We should be clapping for them.”


The Charlotte Hornets might have just 16 wins in 48 tries so far this season, but the future is bright according to NBA assistant coaches, who selected three young players from the team to play in the Rising Stars game during NBA All-Star weekend. Sheriff's deputies say an ex-pastor already serving a life sentence for murder has been charged with killing 29-year-old Anastasia “Star” Talisha Meaders, whose skeletal remains were discovered near Lake Norman in January 2019 and identified in October.


Catawba County passed a resolution Tuesday making it a "Second Amendment sanctuary" county, while Cabarrus County unanimously approved support of its own resolution that would do the same.
