The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office says an ex-pharmacy worker in Concord will spend at least five years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing opioids from her job then selling them.
Jeanna Sechrest Wilson, 35, pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement of a controlled substance by an employee, two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, two counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II substance and related charges Sept. 12, according to a news release from the agency.
Wilson was sentenced to between 70 and 93 months in prison.
The sheriff's office says someone told deputies in August 2018 that an employee at the pharmacy – which was not named – was stealing unopened bottles of oxycodone and selling them. Oxycodone is a prescription painkiller opioid.
Undercover officers bought oxycodone from Wilson in the pharmacy's parking lot as well as at her home, the sheriff's office said. She was arrested within a month as she was leaving work.
The DEA found that at least 9,200 oxycodone pills disappeared from the pharmacy over a 15-month period. The sheriff's office says the thefts took place over three years, but pharmacy records were incomplete.
