The man who died early Friday morning on I-85 northbound appears to have been clinging to the outside of a car door, before falling off, CMPD says. The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Willie Corry Jr.

Police found a silver Mercury Grand Marquis down an embankment between the I-85 connector and Reagan Drive, after being dispatched at 1:45am Friday morning. They still haven’t found the car’s driver.

According to CMPD, Corry was in the Mercury when it stopped at a 7-11 on West Sugar Creek Road at I-85. As he went into the store, the car began backing out of the parking space. Corry immediately left the store and grabbed the front passenger door holding onto the car’s exterior. The car left the parking lot with Corry still holding on and entered I-85 northbound where he eventually fell off. Corry was pronounced dead at the scene. CMPD says a K-9 unit attempted to locate the driver and any other possible occupants, but no one was found.

I-85 northbound was closed for several hours Friday morning as police investigated.
