The Carolina Panthers and their new owner David Tepper are donating close to $1.5 million to aid Hurricane Florence disaster relief efforts.

The franchise announced Thursday that the two foundations — The David Tepper Charitable Foundation, Inc. and the Carolina Panthers Charities — are donating $1 million to the American Red Cross’ financial assistance program and $450,000 to regional food banks.

Tepper said the donation isn’t a one-time event.

“This will be an ongoing process and we are continuing to evaluate the regions’ needs with the goal of assisting impacted communities return to normalcy as quickly as possible,” he said.

The Panthers also said staff and players will engage in service projects in impacted areas around the region. The team is also unveiling a “One Carolina” helmet sticker to be worn by college teams this Saturday. The Panthers will wear the sticker during Sunday’s home game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
