Profile of an African-American Priest

In 1974, Donald Anthony Sterling was ordained as the first African-American priest in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore, Md. Father Sterling is now the pastor of Baltimore's New All Saints Roman Catholic Congregation. He speaks with NPR's Farai Chideya about the pope's legacy and what it felt like to be the first black ordained priest in his archdiocese.

Farai Chideya is a multimedia journalist who has worked in print, television, online, and radio. Prior to joining NPR's News & Notes, Chideya hosted Your Call, a daily news and cultural call-in show on San Francisco's KALW 91.7 FM.
