North Carolina parents who want their home-schooled students to be allowed to play high school sports are getting a sympathetic ear at the state legislature. Proposed legislation would require that local public schools allow home schoolers to play as if they were enrolled there. Both the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and a group that speaks for home schooling families object to the bill now awaiting a hearing in a House education committee. Both worry about how to prove whether a student is making the academic progress required for eligibility, among other things. WRAL-TV in Raleigh has a story here.
