Harry Jones May Head To Birmingham

Mecklenburg County Manager Harry Jones is a finalist for a job in Alabama. The Charlotte Observer reports that Jones is in the running to get a similar job in Jefferson County, Alabama. That's that state's largest county and home to Birmingham. Jones is one of three finalists for the position. It would pay about the same as his $242,000 salary in Charlotte. Jones has been with Mecklenburg County for two decades. He's been county manager since 2000. Jones has come under fire in recent months for his handling of several controversies, including a $63,000 settlement to former Area Mental Health Director Grayce Crockett. She announced her resignatino in December after a federal audit blamed her department for mismanaging a contractor that provided housing to the mentally ill.
