Wake Teacher Makes $131,000

It's rare to hear of classroom teachers making six figures. Wake County high school English teacher David Holdzkom is an exception. His salary is $131,000. He would make the same amount as an assistant superintendent. In fact, that's what Holkzkom used to do in Wake County. Superintendent Tony Tata demoted Holkzkom to the classroom, but the demotion doesn't include a reduction in pay. As a result, Holkzkom is Wake County's highest-paid teacher, the News & Observer reports. Holkzkom told the N&O that he's looking forward to his new job. "Teaching is honorable work," Holdzkom said. "I am glad to do what I was trained to do."
