O.M.D.: Bright Synths, Big History
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, better known by its acronym O.M.D., began its career in the U.K. in 1978, trading in synth-pop, new wave and experimental post-punk sounds for nearly two decades before singer and bassist Andy McCluskey (at that point the only remaining original member) called it quits. The original lineup reunited in 2005, and has been touring and recording ever since.
Best known in the U.S. for the song "If You Leave," which famously plays during the last scene of Pretty in Pink, O.M.D. scored a number of other club and chart hits, especially in its native country. It's also released 11 full-length studio albums — the latest of which, History of Modern, came out out last year.
O.M.D. stopped by The Current's studios and played its latest single, "History of Modern (Pt. 1)."
