Charlotte officials are on the hook to raise nearly $37 million for the Democratic National Convention, but so far haven't said how much they've collected. Some unidentified sources tell Bloomberg the Charlotte in 2012 host committee is "roughly halfway to its $36.6 million goal." 2012 Democratic Convention fundraising has been hampered by new restrictions the Obama Campaign is insisting on: no money from corporations, lobbyists or political action committees and individual contributions are limited to $100,000. Bloomberg reports the DNCC and Charlotte host committee have seized on a potentially lucrative exception to the rule: nonprofit organizations can give as much as they like and labor unions tend to have deep pockets.
