Bomba Estéreo has always been associated with fiery, trance-inducing dance songs like "Fuego." But one of their lesser-known sweet spots is in the more mellow, breezy songs, the kind you want to listen to after a full night of hard-partying, while recovering on a beach, watching the sun rise.
The Colombian duo exploded onto the scene around 2009 with the album Blow Up, led by colorful Caribbean wild-child Li Saumet. They took audiences' hand and dragged them into an insane Colombian dance party filled with African rhythms and some amazing electronic beats. And they where a bit of an antidote to the soap-boxing that exists in the genre known as Latin Alternative. The duo seemed to understand that to dance and celebrate can be every bit as defiant as any long winded revolution song.
"Mar (Lo Que Siento)" is an anthem about traveling the world in search of happiness, only to realize it was back home all along, in a little house on the beach.
"It's only a moment, it's only what I feel," sings Saumet. She's Latin America's favorite party girl, the one who sings "if you don't bite me I will bite you" in "La Boquilla." She's that woman you want to be friends with. But it's in those moments of vulnerability and shyness, that she — and the music — is at it's most endearing.
