DWI Laws in North Carolina Almost 30 years ago North Carolina passed what was then the toughest set of DWI laws in America. Now, critics say there are provisions in the current law that are unprecedented anywhere else in the nation and that weaken crime enforcements ability to combat drunken driving. We look at the laws that regulate drunken driving, the tools of enforcement and at repeat offenders who drink, drive and often kill.
