30 Years Of WFAE (Rebroadcast) Thirty years ago this year, on June 29th, 1981, 90.7fm WFAE first went on the air as a 100,000 watt, NPR-affiliated radio station - Charlotte's first public radio station. Since then, the station has grown and has covered thousands of local, national and international news stories, played thousands of hours of jazz and other music, and has impacted the lives of countless Charlotteans. While WFAE was growing and evolving, Charlotte was also undergoing tremendous growth and change. We'll talk about the start of WFAE and some of the highlights along the way, hear from current and former voices of WFAE, and discuss some of the major growth events that Charlotte went through at that same time. Originally Aired: 6/29/2011 Guests Roger Sarow - General Manager and President of WFAE Paul Stribling - Former Program Director at WFAE and now Program Director and Assistant General Manager of Boise State Public Radio Ed Williams - Former Editor of the Charlotte Observer See photos from the station's early days and a brief timeline of our history here.
