Russell Goings on Life, Art and Poetry

Russell Goings on Life, Art and Poetry Russell Goings' resume is probably one of the longest and most varied out there today. Among other things, he's played professional football, founded Essence Magazine, was the owner of the first African American brokerage firm with a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, and had a close friendship with late Charlotte-born artist Romare Bearden. That friendship is what led Mr. Goings' into his most recent line of work: poetry. His book of poetry, "The Children of Children Keep Coming," which features Bearden's work, was written when Goings was 77 years old, and chronicles the African-American journey. We'll talk about his journey, about art, friendship, poetry and life. Guests Russell Goings - Former pro football player for the Buffalo Bills, founder of Essence Magazine and also the Studio Museum of Harlem.
