Remembering Andy Griffith and Mayberry North Carolina is home to many famous authors who chronicled the southern experience from Thomas Wolfe to more contemporary writers like Charles Frazier and Nicolas Sparks. But perhaps the most enduring example of life in North Carolina came from a TV show about the small, fictional town of Mayberry. The Andy Griffith show rose to number one in TV ratings during its initial run in the 1960's and the show remains popular in reruns to this day. Historians and fans love to recall favorite episodes and debate the cultural impact of a show about a sleepy southern town in the midst of the days of free love, counter culture and anti-war protests. Andy Griffith passed away recently and we will honor his passing and his contribution to the southern experience.
