The Golden Age of Television We regularly gather area film critics to discuss seasonal films, summer blockbusters and Oscar contenders but the discussion after the show often turns to the small screen. Many critics around the country are hailing this as a 'golden age of television.' With the advent of cable channels like HBO and Showtime becoming producing entities - edgy, smart and star-studded shows dot the television landscape. Audiences are responding with fierce loyalty to some of these shows, but DVR capabilities have affected marketing. Or has it? We'll look at the current TV lineup, its impact on society and why some are calling this the 'golden age of television.'
