Charlotte Talks News Roundup Preview: CIAA In Charlotte

On this edition of the news roundup, the CIAA tournament is in the Queen City this week for the 12th consecutive year. After the passing of House Bill 2, the NCAA, the ACC and the NBA have all pulled events from the state, but this signature tournament has remained. Why that might be and what will be the economic impact of the tournament this week?

Governor Roy Cooper has proposed pay increases for teachers over the next two years- we’ll talk about how that proposal was received by teachers in the Charlotte area, and what the increase could do to raise our standing in teacher pay across the country.

Also in education, an update on student assignment at CMS with an option for students at low performing schools to transfer out, and some new numbers on Mecklenburg families choosing charter schools.

Major job cuts were announced this week at the Lowe’s headquarters- 430 in Mooresville and 70 in Wilkesboro. It's part of a restructuring move announced last month that eliminated 2,400 jobs nationwide. What the newest cuts mean for local Lowes' workers.
