Some consider politics a form of entertainment - and a few other things (depending on your point of view). Charlotte boosters and political leaders want the city to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Mark Washburn of the Charlotte Observer has a hard time sharing their enthusiasm. Aside from the traffic jams, the security hassles and the rabid protesters, there are two other fabulous reasons to welcome the Democratic national Convention to uptown. First, we bolster our national reputation as a financial folly-house. After our two biggest banks, the granite foundation of the city's prosperity, speculated recklessly in overvalued real estate, we became known as one of the biggest craters of the recession.
