North Carolina debut of visionary internationally renowned trumpeter’s original work, Gullah Roots Suite, “Telling the untold stories of the fascinating Gullah [Geechee] Culture” from South Carolina and Georgia Low Country, through jazz music. Born in Trinidad and deeply rooted in folkloric tradition, Charles uses music, film, and spoken word to create immersive performances that are as educational as they are electrifying. His work has been featured at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and international festivals around the world.
