Harriet Tubman Legacy Speaker Series: Screening of The Falconer
Carolina Raptor Center's annual Harriet Tubman Legacy Speaker Series celebrates diverse individuals in the field of conservation.
This year's Harriet Tubman Legacy Speaker is Rodney Stotts, a master falconer, licensed raptor specialist, educator, and author. Stotts works passionately to educate young people about their environment through birds of prey.
In the documentary The Falconer, Stotts' present-day mission is woven with the story of his past, both of which are deeply rooted in issues of social and environmental injustice, and consistently orient the viewer to his worldview: nature heals.
Carolina Raptor Center is hosting a public screening of The Falconer at Queens Sports Complex. The screening will begin at 12:45 PM and will be followed by a Q&A with Rodney Stotts. Stotts will also be available for book signings.
Stotts' memoir, Bird Brother, details his journey from a childhood in the tough streets of Southeast Washington, D.C. in the late 1980s to his current career as a master falconer and educator. Eye-opening, witty, and moving, Bird Brother is a love letter to the raptors and humans who transformed what Rodney thought his life could be.
This is a ticketed event, at $10 per ticket. CRC members will recieve a $2 discount. Students can get in free with a student ID.
This event is preceded by an additional event with Rodney Stotts at the Carolina Raptor Center. From 10 AM to 12 PM, join us for an educational program featuring one of CRC's avian ambassadors, a conversation with Stotts and CRC's President and CEO, Erin Katzner, and book signings by Rodney Stotts.
