The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board updated its policies to include more explicit language protecting students from harassment based on gender identity and expression and sexual orientation.
School officials had previously said other school policies already include protections for students based on gender identity and sexual orientation, but that language had not existed in the district’s harassment policy.
The new policy also protects students from harassment based on pregnancy or other related issues.
