North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper is announcing $1 million in funding for public school field trips.
The funds will allow public school students to visit state parks, historic sites, museums, aquariums, zoos and other sites managed by the North Carolina Department of Cultural and Natural Resources.
In a statement, Cooper said the funding will help ensure public school students have the opportunity to take field trips regardless of barriers like cost or location.
Funding priority will go to Title 1 schools with a large percentage of students living at, near, or below the poverty line and some money will be set aside for western North Carolina schools impacted by Hurricane Helene.
