The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education approved its federal entitlements budget Tuesday, finalizing how it plans to spend its federal funding allotments. That includes plans for a bonus of up to $15,000 for teachers at schools that receive Title I funding, allocated to schools with many students from low-income families.
The bonus is meant to boost math performance at those schools and would go to 32 eligible teachers.
Some board members opposed the plan during the district’s budget process – but the final plans were approved unanimously. The district has only planned to spend 65% of its Title I allotment in anticipation of potential federal cuts.
