The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is expected to issue a ruling that will require electronic stability control to be mandatory on all new vehicles sold in the U.S. Advocates say it is the most significant safety improvement since the seatbelt. One of the largest manufacturers of stability control systems is Continental Automotive Systems, which builds them at their factory in Morganton. From WFAE's Carolinas Business Bureau, Craig Fahle spoke with Philip Headley, Continental's Chief Engineer of Advanced Technology. He asked him how soon the ruling will take effect.
