Soda Giant's Research Presence in Kannapolis
PepsiCo's Chief Scientific Officer Mehmood Khan says the beverage and snack giant was attracted by the range of universities involved in research at the campus. "Our products are nourishing. Our products are the safest products you can buy. And in reality we need to think about what more science do we need to learn," he says. Khan is interested in developing stronger seeds that improve crop production. He says it's too early to tell how many employees PepsiCo will have at the campus. Six universities including NC State and UNC Chapel Hill, plus Duke University will have a presence at the campus. PepsiCo's facility will be located at the David H. Murdock Core Lab building- named after the Dole Foods owner who is backing the one-point-five billion dollar research campus.
