Power of the pen
Mecklenburg County Commissioner Bill James surprised fellow commissioners last weekend. He e-mailed them a recorded portion of their last public meeting, and said he had recorded their closed meeting as well. He recorded them with a $100 gadget: A pen that's also a recorder. James hopes his tactic motivates commissioners to record most closed, executive sessions of commission meetings, and release those recordings to the public. He spoke to WFAE Morning Edition host Scott Graf. Note: We asked Commissioner James for the audio of the closed session of last week's commission meeting. He declined to give it to us.
