SC Man Scheduled for Legal Injection Tonight

A South Carolina man is scheduled for execution at 6 p.m. tonight. He'll be the state's first execution in almost two years. 36-year-old Jeffrey Motts has been asking to die for nearly three years. And unless he changes his mind, he'll get his wish at 6 p.m. tonight at the Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia. Motts is being executed for the strangling of his cellmate at a state prison in 2005. He confessed to that murder and waived his right to an appeal. The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled Motts was mentally competent to make that decision in March. At the time Motts killed his cellmate, he was already serving a life sentence for a double murder he committed in Spartanburg County in 1995. Authorities say he shot his great-aunt and great uncle for drug money. Both were in their 70s. Motts is scheduled to die by lethal injection.
