2 Imams Forced Off Plane Headed For Charlotte
Two Muslim clergy attempting to fly from Memphis to Charlotte, were removed from their plane yesterday. The two men were traveling to Charlotte for a weekend conference on "Islamophobia." According to The Charlotte Observer, the two men cleared multiple security checks at the Memphis airport. They were allowed to board their Delta Connection flight around 8 Friday morning. The plane left the gate but returned after the pilot told passengers there was an issue. The two clergymen were told they could not fly and were taken off the plane. The paper says the TSA has made it clear the decision to remove the passengers was made solely by the airline. A spokesman for Atlantic Southeast Airlines, the carrier operating the flight, says the incident is under investigation. The two men were able to board another plane later in the day and by Friday night had reached Charlotte. They're part of a weekend-long conference that's expected to draw 150 Muslim leaders from around the country. Editor's Note: Comments for this story have been disabled.
