The Charlotte Mecklenburg School board has picked the person who'll guide the district while the board selects a new superintendent. Chief Operating Officer Hugh Hattabaugh will take over as interim superintendent Friday. He'll work in that capacity for a year and make $190,000 with a $35,000 bonus at the end of the contract. Hattabaugh will overlap work with outgoing superintendent Peter Gorman for a month. Gorman leaves for a private sector job with News Corp on August 1st. Hattabaugh is an Indiana native and has been with CMS for four years.
