More than six inches of rain fell in the Charlotte area this afternoon. Several apartment complexes were evacuated and parts of the Embassy Suites roof in south Charlotte collapsed. At least 16 drivers were stranded. "Anytime you have a significant amount of rain, the impact is on storm drains and lower streets and once the rain stops and the storm drains become unplugged. The storm drains open up rather quickly," says Charlotte Fire Department spokesman Rob Brisley. But flooding from creeks is still a threat. Flooding has been reported along Stewart and Sugar creeks, and forecasters are keeping an eye on Back Creek and Mallard Creek.
