Charlotte Airport To Offer Only BofA ATMs

The Charlotte Airport is moving toward an exclusive arrangement with Bank of America to be the sole provider of ATMs for passengers in need of cash. Airport Director Jerry Orr says Bank of America outbid Fifth Third Bank for the exclusive contract by $245,000. The three-year contract guarantees Bank of America will pay the airport a minimum of $1.2 million dollars a year plus $.75 per ATM transaction. Orr says he chose the highest bidder and is not concerned about the airport being tied to a bank brand that has taken a lot of heat from the public. "Well it is the home town bank, and uh, that's not for me to judge which bank people like," says Orr. The exclusive deal will mean transaction fees and limited access to banking services for Charlotte airport passengers who are not Bank of America customers. But Orr says having a single ATM provider is much easier for the airport to manage as terminal configuration and flight offerings change. The Airport Advisory Committee approved the Bank of America contract today. The Charlotte City Council will consider it on November 14th.
