Landis Officials Resign Amid Investigation Into Town Finances

The town manager and finance officer of Landis resigned Thursday, the same day an investigation into allegations of criminal activity regarding the town’s finances was announced.

In a release, Mayor Mike Mahaley said he and members of the Board of Aldermen directed the Landis Police Department to open an investigation into allegations about town finances earlier this week.

"In the early stages of that investigation, police uncovered substantial evidence of possible criminal activity," Mahaley said in the release.

No other details about the investigation or possible criminal activity were given.

Following the police investigation, the Rowan County District Attorney requested that the NC State Bureau of Investigation begin a criminal investigation into the allegations. According to the release, an investigation is now underway.

Town Manager Reed Linn and Town Finance Officer Ginger Gibson resigned effective immediately, according to the release.

Landis is about 30 miles northeast of Charlotte.

Marshall came to WFAE after graduating from Appalachian State University, where he worked at the campus radio station and earned a degree in communication. Outside of radio, he loves listening to music and going to see bands - preferably in small, dingy clubs.
